How many days do you have for last minute Christmas gifts?
Christmas Day 2026 is a Friday, so the last full working days are Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 December. We treat Wednesday 23 December as the target and Christmas Eve as too late to rely on, because the policy gives estimates only.
Counting from the business day after the order and using the slowest figures in our shipping policy, which dispatches from Canberra in up to 2 business days and delivers in up to 4 (standard, $11) or 3 (express, $16), gives this table for metro addresses in NSW, the ACT, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia:
| Today is | What can still work | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Up to Tuesday 15 December | A TipSoxx order with standard shipping | Dispatch by Thursday 17 December plus 4 business days is Wednesday 23 December |
| Wednesday 16 December | A TipSoxx order with express shipping | Dispatch by Friday 18 December plus 3 business days is Wednesday 23 December |
| Thursday 17 December | Express is a gamble; a gift card, a parcel you post yourself or a shop you can visit is safer | Dispatch by Monday 21 December plus 3 business days is Thursday 24 December in the slowest case, and Monday 21 in the fastest |
| Friday 18 to Wednesday 23 December | A gift card by email, a parcel you post yourself by the Australia Post dates below, or a shop you can visit | The slowest case no longer lands by Wednesday 23 December |
| Thursday 24 December | A gift card, though its page gives no email delivery time, or a shop that is open | Nothing posted can be counted on to arrive |
Regional and rural parcels need more time, and our Christmas Eve box guide lists order-by dates for the other states.
Which last minute Christmas presents need no courier?
For last minute gifts that skip the postal queue, the routes with no TipSoxx or Australia Post cut-off are a gift card or other digital gift sent by email, and anything you buy in a shop you can visit, which depends only on that shop's opening hours.
Some shops also offer click and collect or same-day delivery, each with its own cut-off. The TipSoxx gift card comes in $25, $50 and $100, and its page says it can be sent to the recipient by email or printed and given in person. To send it by email, tick "I want to send this as a gift" on the product page.
That opens fields for the recipient's email and name, a message of up to 200 characters, and an optional "Send on" date.
The page does not say when the email arrives, what time a "Send on" email goes out, or how a printable copy reaches you. A card that has to be there on Christmas morning is better bought early than on Christmas Eve.
A card does not remove the wait for the socks. The recipient chooses their own pairs, which ship after the order, so the socks arrive after Christmas. That suits a recipient whose size you do not know, because they pick the style and the size, and someone far away, since nothing has to be posted.
Check the expiry before you buy any gift card. The ACCC says gift cards bought on or after 1 November 2019 must be redeemable for at least three years, with exemptions such as reloadable cards, promotional cards and cards sold at a genuine discount.
The expiry date must be prominent, and a card without one must say so, in wording such as "No expiry date". The NSW Government gives the same three-year rule for most cards sold in NSW. The TipSoxx page says its card does not expire. For a card from another shop, the printed or emailed card should show its expiry or say there is none.
Are socks a good last minute Christmas gift?
Socks bought in a hurry can read as an afterthought, as our guide on whether socks are a good gift explains. They work best alongside something else, or when you know the person's taste. If you order by Tuesday 15 December with standard shipping, or by Wednesday 16 December with express, these in-stock last minute Christmas gift ideas are sorted by who they are for, with the delivered total for each shipping choice:
| Who it is for | Style | Price | Delivered, standard ($11) | Delivered, express ($16) | Size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A toddler | Kids' Holiday Crew | $6.99 | $17.99 | $22.99 | Ages 1 to 4, foot length about 13 to 16 cm |
| A woman in the middle of the size range | One-size women's Christmas crews | $12.99 or $14.99 | $23.99 or $25.99 | $28.99 or $30.99 | One size, EU 36 to 41 |
| A woman in a cooler region who wants a warmer sock | Women's Nordic crews | $18.99 | $29.99 | $34.99 | S/M or M/L |
| A man, or anyone in EU 39 to 46 | Men's and unisex Christmas crews | $14.99 | $25.99 | $30.99 | EU 39 to 42 or EU 43 to 46 |
| Larger feet | Men's Christmas ankle socks | $14.99 | $25.99 | $30.99 | One size, EU 41 to 47 |
| Someone who does not wear socks | Christmas hanging hand towel | $9.99 | $20.99 | $25.99 | Not applicable |
Prices and stock are from the Christmas socks collection, which had 33 styles in stock on 29 October 2026, and from the product pages. The Kids' Holiday Crew is the only children's style in that collection and had five pairs left across its colours on 29 October, so check stock first. The hanging hand towel suits someone who does not wear socks: its product page describes a kitchen or bathroom towel with a hanging loop.
Sizing is the part to get right for a Christmas socks gift. Twelve in-stock women's Christmas styles are one size, eleven crews and one ankle style. Their product pages list that size as EU 36 to 41, while our gift guide gives EU 36 to 40, and the guide says a one-size sock is safe for someone in the middle of the band and a poor choice at either edge.
If you do not know the size, a gift card avoids the guess. Our size guide for socks in Australia explains how to read the sizes.
Postage decides the price of a single pair. Standard shipping is $11 under the $69 free-shipping line in the shipping policy. At list prices and before any discount code, no adult TipSoxx gift comes in under $20 delivered with standard shipping: the cheapest adult items are $9.99 ($20.99 delivered), and the adult Christmas crews start at $12.99.
Some of the $9.99 prices are sale prices that run from 1 November to 1 December, so check the price on the day. For an adult gift under $20 with nothing posted, the Kris Kringle ideas under $20 list in-person options. If you are buying for several people, a single order over $69 ships free, and our Christmas Eve box guide covers multi-pair orders.
What if you post a gift yourself?
If you will see them in person, only the arrival date at your own address matters, and the first table covers it. Posting yourself only helps when the gift is already bought. Australia Post sets cut-offs by route.
For Parcel Post taken to the counter, the Australia Post dates run from Monday 14 December for the furthest routes to Tuesday 22 December within a state, and parcels must be lodged by 2.30pm. SBS reported 2026 cut-offs in the same ranges in early October.
The table shows Parcel Post routes from NSW and the Express Post dates, all for metro addresses:
| Service (metro addresses) | Latest date, over the counter by 2.30pm | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Parcel Post | Tuesday 22 December | NSW to NSW |
| Parcel Post | Monday 21 December | NSW to the ACT, Victoria, Queensland, SA or Tasmania |
| Parcel Post | Friday 18 December | NSW to WA |
| Parcel Post | Wednesday 16 December | NSW to the NT |
| Express Post | Wednesday 23 December | NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland, SA, Tasmania and within the same state |
| Express Post | Tuesday 22 December | NT and from WA |
Australia Post's Express table gives no date for parcels to WA; SBS reports 22 to 23 December. Other pairs of states are mostly the mirror image of the NSW rows, and the sending dates page lists every pair. Australia Post says parcels sent outside a metro area need additional time, and that items sent after these dates may not arrive until after Christmas.

What to do today
Check today's date against the first table. On or before Wednesday 16 December, order the socks now and pick the shipping that matches the date. From Thursday 17 December, buy a gift card using the steps above, post a gift by the Australia Post date for your route, or go to a shop.

TipSoxx sells socks, scrunchies, hanging hand towels and a gift card, so the dates and prices below come from our own shipping policy, gift card page and product pages, and the postal dates come from Australia Post. Other retailers' dates are theirs to publish and are not covered here. Everything is an estimate, busy periods can run slower, and the figures were last checked on 29 October 2026.
